The board endeavors, through the dedication of the school district resources, to encourage students, who come to the school district from a variety of backgrounds, to look forward to the time when they will have jobs, homes, families, places in the school district community, and attain recognition as individuals. Jeremy Pritchard

Jeremy Pritchard - President

Jeremy Pritchard was born and raised in Boone and graduated from BHS in 2005. After graduating, he moved on to the University of Northern Iowa where he graduated with a degree in Microbiology and a minor in Chemistry. Shortly after, Jeremy and Amy – also raised in Boone – were married and moved to the Iowa City area where Amy taught high school Spanish and Jeremy worked in Biotechnology. The birth of their son Ethan brought them back to Boone where Jeremy works at his family’s mechanical contracting business and Amy teaches at BHS. Ethan is now 4 and their youngest son Nolan is 1. In their spare time Jeremy, Amy, and the boys like to spend time together, travel, read books, and tinker with things in the shop.


Pat Thieben

Pat Thieben – Vice President

Pat has been in education for 39 years plus 6 years in business.  She received her bachelors in Business Education from the University of Northern Iowa and her Masters in Educational Administration from Iowa State University.

She taught for 14 years total at the DMACC Boone Campus, and served in administrative positions for 2 years at Austin Community College, and 7 years at the DMACC Ankeny Campus.  She retired at the end of 2019 from the Iowa Department of Education where she served as a consultant, administrative consultant and acting bureau chief in the Bureau of Career and Technical Education.

Pat is married, has two daughters that graduated from the Boone Schools system, and 3 grandchildren (2 of which are in school in Boone).


Dr. Brian Mehlhaus

Dr. Brian Mehlhaus

A native of Dysart, Iowa, Dr. Mehlhaus attended Luther College and the University of Iowa College of Medicine in 1988. After completing a family practice residency in South Bend, IN, he returned to Iowa, practicing in Fairfield for three years before moving to DesMoines. After getting married in 1997, he moved to Boone and practices for Boone County Family Medicine. His wife Laura works part-time at DMACC. They have two daughters, Erica (2017 graduate), and Katelyn (2018 graduate). Dr. Mehlhaus is on active staff at Boone County Hospital where he serves on several committees. He is also a member of Boone Rotary and his family are members of Boone First United Methodist Church. Hobbies include traveling, golf, and spending time with their family dogs.


Dr. Pam Nystrom

Matt Elthon

Matt Elthon is a Charles City, IA graduate of the class of 2008.  He moved to Cedar Falls where he earned his AA degree in Business Marketing from Hawkeye Community College.  He is married to his lovely wife Angie (from Sioux City) and is blessed with two boys, Benjamin and Jackson.  Matt moved to Boone and took a position in procurement with Fareway in 2016 (started working at Fareway in 2005) where he is now able to put down roots and call Boone "home".  He is a member of the Rotary Club and tries to stay active within the community of Boone. Having children in Boone Schools (elementary) he is looking forward to serving the district as a School Board member.

Dr. Pam Nystrom

I am a life-long learner and educator. I started my career as a speech therapist. I earned a master’s degree in special education and taught for several years in Missouri. A native of Iowa, my family returned to Boone in 1984. I served as a consultant for four years with Heartland AEA (Area Education Agency) and then started my teaching career with Boone schools in 1988 at Franklin Elementary. I earned a PhD in Curriculum and Instruction from Iowa State University in 2002. I also earned hours in Leadership and Policy Study and in 2003 became the principal for Page and Bryant elementary schools where I served for several years. I went on to serve in the Middle School as 5th and 6th grade principal and in 2011 went to Central Office as Special Services/Curriculum Director until my retirement in July, 2013. It is now my honor to serve the Boone community as a School Board member.

The Boone Community School District has established goals providing an educational environment that promotes academic and extra-curricular excellence and the development of good character in our students.

Goal #1 Student Achievement To increase the number of students that achieve the benchmarks identified on the Redefining Ready Indicators .Social Emotional Learning Implement strategies to support students’ social emotional learning with an equity lens and provide trauma-informed care PK-12.  Standards Based Grading PK-8 teachers will be trained in proficiency scales and defining mastery  9-12 teachers will define and implement standard based grading practices

Goal #2  Family Engagement and Communication To create a collaborative community culture with two-way communication occurring between the District, families, and community.  Portrait of a Graduate The District will develop and adopt a portrait of a graduate.  Family  Engagement  Train employees how to positively communicate with parents and promote two way communication between staff and parents.. Community Engagement Collaborate with the city officials and the chamber of commerce to develop a portrait of a graduate in addition to ongoing two way communication

 Goal #3   Facilities  Budget Management   To build a new elementary school replacing Lincoln and Page Elementary Schools while maintaining a positive fiscal position. Elementary Land  Work with the City to secure land for a new elementary school with road access provided by the City . Elementary Configuration Work with the City and community to determine the elementary configuration including grade levels and support programs. Budget Management  Maintain undesignated, unreserved general fund balance at a minimum of 10% of the year’s revenue.
