The purpose of the Boone Silver Cord Program is to instill within the students of our high school the importance of community service and to encourage students to be accountable for investing in their own education and in the community on a regular basis during their school years.

The Silver Cord Award is a distinguished, national award available to Boone High School students who earn at least 160 hours of volunteer community service by May 1 of the graduating year. A maximum of 40 hours can be spent at one volunteer location. Special consideration will be given to students in the Class of 2019 and 2020 who have already completed over 40 hours at one location under the old policy (maximum of 20 hours at one location each school year). Recipients will receive a silver cord to wear on their robes at graduation in recognition of their achievement.

Additional information and Silver Cord applications are available in the BHS Guidance Office.
